Since 2023, Centrica has been overseeing the digitization of Michelangelo Buonarroti‘s drawings preserved at Casa Buonarroti in Florence, contributing to the creation of a digital catalog of the works.
The project is an important testament to the role that digitization plays in the preservation and promotion of artistic heritage, allowing delicate works that are inaccessible to the public due to the fragility of their materials to be enjoyed.
The project was divided into three different phases, during which the artist’s drawings were progressively digitized. Today, the first group of drawings can be viewed both at the museum, via an interactive totem, and online on the Casa Buonarroti website: Online catalog of Michelangelo’s drawings.
The catalog was produced as part of the project “Michelangelo’s drawings. Enjoyment, digitization, enhancement” (2023-2024), supported by Fondazione CR Firenze through the call for proposals Enhancement of Museums, Libraries, and Archives – 2023 and by Friends of Florence.
With this initiative, Centrica confirms its commitment to using digital technologies to protect, promote, and disseminate cultural heritage.
