XLknowledge® is a software platform developed by Centrica
for the representation and the processing of knowledge,
based on ontological models.

These models are developed by the joint laboratory EntiaLab
(Faculty of Humanities – University of Florence),
where Centrica is involved as reference company.

One of the most relevant features of XLknowledge® technology is the advanced interaction between high resolution digital images and knowledge elements related to them, through the definition of “sensitive areas” inside the single images (hot spot).

In the case of a collection of artworks, for example, XLknowledge® allows the browsing exploiting details and common elements of the images, like jewels, landscapes, furniture. XLknowledge ® is one of the enabling technologies of Uffizi Touch®, as well as of many interactive applications and websites made ​​by Centrica.

This type of interaction opens new scenarios to the use of XLknowledge® also for other sectors such as fashion, luxury and the made ​​in Italy.

Recently XLknowledge® platform has been used to show the products of Officina Profumo Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella at their best.

XLknowledge® has been selected as “innovative product” in Italia degli Innovatori 2011-2012.

Uffizi Touch® integrated with XLknowledge®

presents the artworks and their details according to
what the user wants to analyse.

XLknowledge® for cloud computing platform

XLknowledge® will be soon available in a version for cloud, that will allow users to easily create and manage their own knowledge representational models, with a large amounts of information, starting from their own information systems.

Finally, it will allow users to create their own applications, easily interfaceable with the knowledge structures through the XLknowledge® API.

XLphoto® has been projected to allow the search, the visualization in high resolution and the dynamic distribution of digital images.
